We are pleased to be taking on the organisation of the traditional curtain raiser of the West Yorkshire fell racing year, the Giant's Tooth Race. Held annually on New Year's Day, the race became famous when featuring in the opening chapter of Richard Askwith's excellent "Feet in the Clouds". It's always a fun race, with a typically festive atmosphere, fell runner excuses (hangovers, niggles etc) and smiles. Registration is from 9.30 a.m at the Ogden Water classroom (opposite the visitor centre). This is for number collection, signing of U18 consents and confirmation of the kit requirements on the day (weather dependent). PLEASE BRING AND BE PREPARED TO CARRY FULL FRA KIT just in case it is deemed necessary for safety reasons. The race is mostly flagged and on established trails with prepared surfaces. There is, however, one steep and technical descent, littered with slippery tree roots and tussocks. Please only turn up to race in appropriate fell running footwear. From the foot of that descent is a fast, undulating 1.5 miles to the finish. Please note that the large gates will be open at the kissing gates which have been bottlenecks in the past. This is to prevent clashes with families out walking with their dogs etc. PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY HAVE PRIORITY. PLEASE BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL OF THEIR RIGHT TO SHARE OUR RACE ROUTE. Parking is at the Causeway Foot Inn (NOT OGDEN CAR PARK). Presentation is in the dog walker's bar in the pub afterwards. The race is pre-entry only. £6 FRA members £7.50 non members. Minimum age 16. All age categories age on the day. The race is a fundraiser for Ogden Water so the prizes will be low key. Enter Here
