We are proud to have a busy and vibrant juniors section at Halifax Harriers. We try to create a fun and welcoming environment in which children can learn the basic movement skills (agility, balance and co-ordination) before moving on to the more advanced running, throwing and jumping skills.
We have a team of dedicated coaches and assistants. All of our coaches are qualified and licensed by UK Athletics.
The children learn through fun and games, as well as regular routines and drills which improve their physical abilities through repeated practice. They also improve their cardio-vascular fitness, whilst engaging socially with children of different ages and from different schools and backgrounds to their own. The skills the children learn are transferable across all sports and tend to foster an interest in leading a healthy, active life.
If you are interested in become a coach or assistant coach please contact Richard Corney for details of how to apply. Here is the link to the coaching course page of the England Athletics website.
Coaching Qualifications - England Athletics
We encourage the children to take part in competition, whatever their ability. We are just as proud of those who work hard to improve at their own pace as we are of those who win races. Although athletics is often seen as an individual sport, we compete as a team and we promote a team ethic amongst our young athletes. This has been key to the notable successes we have had with our junior teams recently.
The minimum age for joining is 8 years old.
